What to expect when you have a regenerative medicine treatment
One of the most important aspects of Regenerative Medicine therapy is to have a conversation with patients about what to expect from a particular regenerative medicine intervention before, during, and after the intervention. The way many of these therapies work is by attracting different inflammatory proteins to the site of injury. Those inflammatory proteins then help the body heal the diseased area.
Oftentimes, due to this inflammatory response, the initial reaction a patient will experience following the injection is some degree of pain or discomfort. It’s essential to have a thorough conversation with patients so they understand that therapy may actually make the sight feel worse a couple weeks directly following the injection due to that initial pro-inflammatory response– but that is also what is helping improve the pathology. After that inflammatory response resides in 2-4 weeks is when you start to notice improvement in your pain and function.
