Ultrasound-guided joint injections are non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment options used to treat generalized pain the joint from arthritis and other types of acute injuries.

How does it work?

Joint injections under ultrasound guidance allows for direct visualization of the joint area to accurately deliver the medication. Previous to ultrasound guidance, many of these joint injections were done using palpation guidance, which can be much more painful to the patient. Joint injections under ultrasound guidance can be performed at the point of care in the office with a higher amount of accuracy and can treat a myriad of joint complaints.

What does it treat?

Below are some of the most common joints that are injected to alleviate pain and improve function. Joint injections are used to treat many ailments, including shoulder pain, knee pain, foot pain, wrist pain and ankle pain.

Upper Extremity: AC (acromioclavicular) joint, biceps tendon, elbow joint, hand and wrist joints, shoulder (subacromial or glenohumeral joint).

Lower Extremity: Foot and ankle joints, hip (greater trochanteric bursa or iliopsoas bursa) joint, knee joint.
